We at the Dunn Lab are launching a small study to test how well our quantitative NIRS system measures brain oxygenation across different brain regions in healthy individuals. Sessions typically run on Wednesdays, though we’re happy to accommodate other days if needed. Each session takes about 45 minutes.
Your participation would greatly support this study, and we’d be glad to have you involved.
What’s Involved:
Consent and overview of the study
A short confounder checklist (e.g., caffeine, exercise, etc.)
Vital sign measurements: tympanic temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation
Resting brain recordings using our multi-region FD-NIRS system
You’ll just be seated comfortably with eyes closed—no tasks, no stress.
Safety Notes:
The system uses low-risk Class 3B lasers, following full safety protocols
The probe might feel a little poky while we part the hair to make skin contact—totally safe, just slightly uncomfortable for a moment.
We may apply a small amount of hair gel to improve signal quality (don’t worry—it’s water washable, and clean towels are provided)
Who Can Participate:
We're looking for healthy adults, preferably 30 years or older.
Please don’t sign up if you:
Smoke or vape (nicotine or Marijuana)
Have blood pressure issues or take related medications
Have diabetes, cardiovascular, or respiratory conditions, or recent systemic infections.
If you're under 30 but interested, feel free to reach out—we may still be able to include you.
How to Sign Up:
Just email us at msbrainoxygenresearch@gmail.com with the subject: “Volunteering to Participate in Dunn Lab ReFDNIRS Study”
Thanks so much for considering! Let us know if you have any questions—we’d love to have you involved.
Cheers,
Dunn Lab, Human MS Research Team
