Speaker: Andrew Ijever

Paper: Cerebral oxygen extraction fraction as a physiological biomarker in vascular cognitive impairment: A study in older adults enriched for small vessel diseases.

Talk Description: Did you know that increased cerebral oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) is associated with poorer cognitive performance in older adults with vascular risk factors?

This presentation will explore a recent study investigating the relationships between MRI-derived OEF, cognitive function, vascular risk factors, and Alzheimer's disease pathology. The discussion will highlight the potential of OEF as a physiological biomarker for vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID).

About the Speaker: Andrew is a PhD student in Medical Science at the University of Calgary, supervised by Dr. Eric Smith. His research focuses on investigating individual and cumulative dementia risk factors as potential determinants of cerebral blood flow, measured using arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI, and their implications for cognitive function and brain health.

Maggie Stewart will be presenting on the paper - A plasma protein signature for cerebral amyloid angiopathy.
